hatin' the high chair

i guess it was only a matter of time. aidan eats all his meals at school sitting at the table in his own chair-- why should home life be any different?

for the past week or so, aidan puts up a fuss when we put him in his high chair. he doesn't want to belted in. he doesn't want his tray attached. uh-uh. no way. get that thing away from me. nooooo!

so the other night, we set up the booster chair we usually cart around with us when we go out. it belts onto any chair or slides into any restaurant booth. it changes our seating arrangement somewhat because now aidan sits at the head of the table with paul and i flanking him on either side.

now who's in charge?

he managed to eat his dinner, but splattered pasta sauce all over the placemats. i'm going to have to pick up some plastic ones with numbers and cartoon characters or something.

this morning, he ate his breakfast at the table like a big boy and exclaimed "all done" after his last bite of cheerios and yogurt.

there goes one more piece of baby furniture to storage.

ooooh, that one scared me, Laurel. Now that Susan's past the 20-week mark and the anatomy & amnio all came back clear, it is all seeming much closer and very real.

It hit me like there was an epic struggle for control around the chair, and Aidan can't reason or explain yet and you can't tell him why and... whoa. Just kinda blew my mind.

It's still all fun and cool, right? :) I shouldn't be scared?

hey, scott! glad to hear everything is going great with the pregnancy. say hi to susan for us!

at aidan's age, everything seems to be an "epic struggle" because he's learning how to be his own little man. it is a joy to watch(because that's what you want to have in the end-- a self-sufficent adult that knows how to take care of himself and knows what he wants. but it is also a lot of work (read "stressful!") and a pain to deal with. but that is parenthood. and yes, it is still all fun and cool.

don't let my next post scare you off. it's about how aidan won't let paul help brush his teeth. good times.

Laurel - all I can say is Dollar Tree! They have those plastic placemats... and they often have ones that interest the kids so you have a chance of keeping the on the table!

Lyssie's been out of the highchair for a bit (she gets a lot of privileges we didn't allow Robbie just because we are too tired to argue) and our latest struggle is getting her to strap herself in (heaven forbid we do it for her).

Hurray for our independent thinking children!

hey kayce! thanks for the tip on the placemats. paul has always wanted to buy the sponge bob one at target, but i think that was more for him than for aidan. :)

oh, our independent rugrats! it will be fun to see them together at alyssa's birthday party. see you then!
